I was looking at ads in " Hemmings " and the " cheapest " GT40 I saw was $80,000! I would venture to say that this car is a replica! I still wouldn't mind owning it, though! :thumbs2:

That’s a kit car, there have been many kits by many manufacturers over the years. A true original car will likely be sold at auction, my guess it will be north of a million for a properly documented car.

I am in Cobra Automotive all the time. They recently finished a restoration on a real GT40, the owner paid 1.5 million for the car before the restoration!

I went back and read the ads again and no where does it mention it's not original, so either the guy is hoping someone thinks it's the real deal or he's really naive...

Seems to me the GT40 was right hand drive and the shifter was by the door instead of the center hump. I think the dead give away is it is listed as other makes and not Ford.

The originals were essentially kit cars

I contacted the owner and he states it's a kit car made by GT Development. I found another GT Development car on auto-trader.com that states the company is out of Poole, UK. I would hazard a guess that the owner brought it over from the UK because the license plate has a Union Jack on it.

Here's the other GT Development Car

You can tell it`s not original because the car is way to clean & the fenders are more squared & not rounded like the originals.

Small yes but...The DOHC 255 was an indy spec engine that turned 9K and made 400 HP? IIRC. They only used it for short track races and it wasnt reliable enough. The 289 just couldnt make enough grunt to be compettitive in class so hence the MK II with its 427. They were just brutal on the track...Made Ferrari go home with their tail between their legs...LOL...
