Now this is what I have going on now. I adjusted the shift linkage I think that is right. But now when I start the car the rear passenger tire spins in park and when it's in drive it spins really fast. What the heck is going on.

The tires were spinning for a few seconds then nothing. now I have continuous spinning as long as I am on the gas, then spins back a little in reverse. The shift linkage is correct. It is still spinning in park and even faster in drive. Could it be the throttle linkage?

No,if its spinning in park, either the adjustment is wrong or the parking pawl in the trans is broken.I assume you have the rear end off the ground?? sometimes inertia in the trans moving parts will cause the wheels to free wheel for a second if the trans is in neutral.Did you mess with the valve body at all??

To adjust the shift linkage on a C4 you put the shifter in Drive and load it toward Second - up against the detent for Drive. Then disconnect the transmission lever from the linkage. Put the transmission lever in Drive. Adjust the linkage to connect without any tension on it. Tighten the lock nut on the linkage.
Then you test it for park and neutral and adjust the neutral start switch as required. Test drive.
The above is the factory listed adjustment technique. As long as the manual lever on the transmission is properly engaged in the manual valve it works.
