timing cover 289

    THANX FOR ALL THE HELP FOR 302 TO 351W had to many problems so i went smaller got a 289 for 125 and now i need to figur out the pullys to make all work with what i have can i use the timeing cover off the 302 and water pump and all cuz i need to have alternator and power steering waonderign what to do once agian caught up in one of fords brilliant ideas :(


    once agian really thank you guys for helpin out i think iam abotu done messin with this car but i need it on the road its my dayly driver and i miss MY MAVY

    The 289 and 302 are dimensionally the same size engines, making accessories easy to hook up. Find the brackets you will be needing for the PS pump and the alternator from any late 60's on up to the early 80's and it should work. Or you could go the cool route, and find the serpentine belt brackets that are needed for this swap, and then you only have 1 belt instead of 2. Serpentine belts are much cleaner too, and they dont slip or need adjustment. Just make sure you get the idler too. If you get one from a later-model, check to see if the water pump rotates in the standard direction or reverse rotation, either will bolt up just fine.

    Just make sure that the donor engine is 80 or earlier and you should be fine swapping all parts from 302 to 289. swap ALL parts though since older 289 balancer 3-bolt and timing cover are for passenger outlet on water pump and newer 4-bolt is driver side outlet. and if you don't change all you won't be able to time it.
