Tips on installing new carpet?

We're going to be installing new carpet, and just laying it in place and doing a dry fit, it appears that the "hump" is not fitting right. the batting in the pans is square, and we've tried going forward and back.

Anyone have any heads up or tips on this? Can you fill the odd space with batting or something to fill it out?

Lay the carpet in the sun for a few hours, it helps.

 

the trans hump on the 69.5 is a little smaller.

 

I always lay it in the hot sun for a few hours prior to laying it in the car. Like Mavaholic states,, it sure does help.

It was 88 today, is that good enough.

 

I just installed carpet in my 70 Mav and had the same problem. I used about four layers of carpet jute backing I had left over from carpet installation in my house and it turned out nice. I do recommend using duct tape to hold it down after you get the right fit. Search "924 Mav interior pics" and look at my picture.

 

What brand of carpet are you using? I need carpet and I was planing on ACC cut loop and I would like to know what problems I might have.

we went semi cheap and ordered from American Classic Restorations

It took about 4 weeks to get the carpet. We ordered the "Essex" which is supposedly a plush type cut pile

It just doesn't fit correctly over the hump of the tran tube in our 69.5

I have the loop pile from ACC. I was not impressed with the fit. It was short in some areas. It is one piece. Dan Hines ordered 2 piece carpet
as original from someone. I think he liked it?

I have the one piece ACC loop pile in my orange car. I was pleased.

 

I have it in my Sprint and had no problems.
