I've got a 71 grabber and some skinney tires that do not hook up. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the biggest size tires, and with what kind of wheel spacing I would have to use to fit the tires under there with out rubbing on anything. P.s. I have traction bars, and stock shocks. Thanks-Jake

What size tires are on there now?

I don't know what the biggest tire that will fit is, but a 255/60-15 will fit on the rear with a 3-3/4" backspacing. They're awfully tall though. There are a lot of variables for tire sizes on these cars. I expect you'll get a lot of replies on this thread...

I just checked, the tires are P215/70/r14s. I tink the backspacing on the wheel is around 3-1/2 to 4 inches.

I just put 275/60/15 on a 4 inch backspacing wheel on my car. Looks and fits good I think. They tuck under. Go here for a few pics. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=18451 Haven't tried them out at the track YET so I'll hafta get back to you on that one. Good Luck! Preston

There is no such animal in my book. In order for a tire to grip, it usually is a softer compound. Softer compounds to not make for long tread life.

Thanks Preston, and I know there is no such tire, I was wanting something in between the two. Right now in first gear, my car slides to the right. In second gear, my car slides to the left. Anything that will get me going a little better and straighter will be an improvement.

    I have 215/70/14's on my Grabber ... I don't consider them that skinny ... :)

Again, not to rain on a parade, but it won't do both very well. You will get a few miles out of it, and it will kinda hook up in 2nd, and you'll be mad. Keep your street tires you have now, buy a set of et streets, and bolt them on when you drive to the track...

    You'll be happy..

Futura GLS tires from Pep Boys hook up pretty well for a low buck street tire.
I had read about a few magazine project cars that had decent traction at the strip with them. I got a set and so far have run 12.94 @ 106.5 m.p.h. in the 1/4 on them.
they were around $86.00 each for 275/60-15s.
