sure that might be cool for you guys with high tq v8's but i have a feeling my I6 shouldnt be chirping the rubber when it shifts. the rpm's seem to go a little too high before it shifts if im giving it alot of throttle(3/4 or more), if im easy on it it will go into gear at a lower more normal feeling rpm. sorry i dont have a tach to give any real numbers. i gotta admit it sounds cool, and i got a little more streed cred out of it from the tuner kids at school :rofl2:, but i have a feeling im causing damage to the trans, or maybe a slipping tranny is to blame? im guessing i have to adjust the vaccume thing on the trans that goes to the intake?

thanks in advance for the help(y)

First things first, make sure the fluids full. Sometimes we all can overlook the simple things.

i use castrol type f. i have used the lucas oil treatment for the tranny and it seemed to help. i have friends that run it all the time. not sure if that's a fix though.:)

Tighten the intermediate band...sounds like you have a flare that lets the rpms go up before it engages in the next gear.

The vacuum modulator only affects part throttle shift points. Does your transmission shift normally when slowing to a stop in drive?
If it downshifts suddenly when slowing to a stop in drive then you need to adjust the kick-down linkage.
If it only "chirps the tires" when you are into the throttle then it is probably alright. To get "normal" shifts out of it just don't accelerate so hard. Fluid changes should be made every 24000 miles, and you should always use the type recommended by the builder of the tranny. I always recommend using type "F" because the parts I use are compatible with it and My experience shows that it keeps the tranny in good shape for 10 years or more under street driving conditions.

well i guess the main issue is that it will rev up higher than normal when im deep in the throttle before it shifts. on slower acelations it will shift up fine. it was doing this with the original 1bbl carb and kickdown so im dont want to point the finger at my new 2bbl. it shifts fine slowing down too. as long as im not hurting the trans under normal driving conditions im not worried about it.

regardless its probably time for a fluid change anyway. type F is the way to go then on a stock C4/108,000 miles? how much will i need? while im at it how much would a new pan with a drain plug costor maybe i can find one stock at a J-yard??

Now, if that is the original fluid, and you drop it and put in new fluid, you will also be draining all the dust and "chunks" the help make the clutches grab, and you might pick up some flare that you didn't have before...

That happened to mine after I swapped the fluid after 30 years and 55,000 miles. It immediately started to flare requiring band adjustment.

You can buy a drain plug kit. Several companies make them. The one that sticks out in my mind is the b&m. You can also get an aftermarket pan with a drain plug in it already. Try to stay away from the cheap chrome pans that are made in China, it will most likey leak on ya.

what does the drain plug kit involve? drill and tap a hole in my existing pan for a plug? i thought a whole new pan was the only way to go, which is probably what i'll do anyway.

wow you just scared mt there scoop. ive only had the car for 1year/6,000 miles and i havent changed the fluid but i think the last owner kept up on regular maintance. what does band adjustment involve? can i just drop the and and do what i gotta do?

    thanks for the help
