I have a 74 Mav and currently going to fix it up while going to school. I am currently doing some patch panel work (going to start ...lol) and hopefully paint this car by December. I was wondering what do you guys think about Bench seats vs. Buckets. I know most of the pros and cons but what do you guys suggest. Is it easy to convert to buckets, like mustang buckets? Are there any other seats that fit well, or direct bolt in(lol). And if I do go to buckets could I get any money for my buckets, because I sure don't want to through them away. Thanks :tiphat: (please post links if possible:) especially if you know of anyplace that has seat cover or seat upholstery)

the LDO buckets that are for a four door recline and are really comfy, if you can find some in good shape they are great. if you want the grabber look you can get mustang highback foams and upholstry and only us mav heads will know. if you had a bench you will have to open up the holes for the seat rails but other than that, easy install.

My biggest peeve with bench seats is that when you adjust it for the driver, the passenger side moves with it (obviously), so if the driver is short, the passenger may have to deal with no leg-room. By the way, the LDO 4-door buckets do not tilt forward for access to the back seat on a 2-door model. There are several different bucket seats that will work, however you must use tracks that are specifically for a Maverick. Otherwise, you will have to do some modification to make them fit properly...

Be aware the 4 dr buckets do not fold foward. Makes it tough to get in the back seat if used in a 2 door. I like Escort GT seats, Very comfy and plentiful around here. Almost any seat will require modification.

I have no complaints about my bench seat, allows more people to be able to ride with me (or the gf to get close :evilsmile), but given the choice I would take buckets over a bench just for the looks. My current situation would not allow me to have buckets in my car though due to the number of people that ride with me on a daily basis.

Just depends on how you use your car and which look you like better.

I remember a thread on here where someone bought some 4dr buckets, and all they had to do was remove a bolt and they flipped forward.IMO,whatever the car came with will probably be easiest,if it came with a bench I wonder how one of those 60/40 benches from a '90's Ranger would fit?

For the umpteenth time: 4 door bucket seats can be made to fold by taking off the side cover and removeing the bolt nearest the back rest on the seat bottom on both sides! Geez guys, do I have to keep repeating myself? :D Thank you Tim Keck! I'm glad somebody is paying attention! :tiphat:

So don't overlook those 4 door buckets anymore! THEY CAN BE MADE TO FOLD JUST LIKE A 2 DOOR SEAT! :biglaugh: (y)

I have found that seats from just about any car can be swapped into any car with minimal work. We've put full power adjustable buckets from an '88 thunderbird into a '72 Pinto and it wasn't that hard. There was only one bracket that didn't sit or line up right and it was easy enough to fix that with a BFH and some drilling. Depending on what look you're going for, there are a ton of after market seats you can get too. I'm thinking about getting some buckets that jegs makes with 5 point provisions. They come in a lot of different colors and styles. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=25729&parentCategoryId=10509&langId=-1

Seats from a 3rd gen F-body car or any sport compact would also probably fit well and give you some good support.

Buckets get my vote, but like others have been saying there are a ton of really nice seats out there in junkyards that you can get in any color for dirt cheap. Mine came out of a '92 Honda Prelude. They're the perfect width, but i did have to make up some brackets for the inner half (incredibly easy, and i would have had to do it anyways since mine is a 69.5).

True, but buckets still look better. Not that you would be paying much attention to what the seat looks like. (y) :rofl2:

My mav currently has 86 Hyundai buckets in it. Very uncomfortable.. I just picked up a pair of 98 Ford Contour buckets for 60.00.. At least they are FORD..
