To pin or not to pin left V8 motor mount????

    Was getting everything ready to put in my 363 stroker and was wondering if I should drill and pin the left side motor mount?

    What are your thoughts? Will it cause major vibration issues?

    Pin them. When I pinned my Falcon mounts I didn't crank down real tight on the bolt/nut. This gave the rubber enough room to do it's thing.

    Please school me in pinning the mounts, to decrease stresses on the rubber? Increase shear strength? Pin what to what?

    Some come like that, some don't. Just drill a hole all the way through the mount and put 5/16 bolt in there with a nylon locking nut or use a regular nut with Loctite. Don't torque it down tight, leave just a little slop.

    I have been looking for a set that are pinned and can not find a set. I purchased a set of NOS mounts that show them with the pins on ebay. When they arrive they did not have the pins.

    Also would you pin both sides or just the left mount?

    So, we are talking about the motor mounts, one half attached to the motor, the other half attached to the frame, correct?

    When the two halves come together, run a bolt thru the holes but dont tighten that bolt? Werent they tightened from the factory? Just wanting to be clear on this.

    It ties the two halves together so if the rubber fails the engine will not lift off the frame pads under acceleration or deceleration. You are basically adding a bolt like the one in this picture.

    you'll only need to pin the one side as there is no physical way the other could fail in the same dramatic "hood clearancing" manner.

    just to help clarify, the engine twists when you accelerate. this twist stretches the drivers side motor mount and trys to pull it apart. i have found that about 400 hp will rip the parts store replacement mounts in half quickly. so putting a bolt through the mount will keep it from stretching and ripping the mount apart. also the limiting the amount the motor can move in the chassis means more power transferred to the ground.

    lol.. "Rockfords" don't count. Not enough traction to do the same damage.

    But maybe.. just maybe.. if Dad ever decides to enter the demolition derby with it?... doing both sides would probably be best.
