    Ok,
Now that my mrs' 75' 4dr mav project is underway I am tired of paying for her project so thought I would find my own. Found a 73' w/302 in it for 600 including towing to my house. The question is: it has a halo vinyl top which I don't really care for so should I strip it down to bare metal or leave that factory option alone and have it redone? It also has trunk rust issues in right rear and the trunk lip, how easy are these to repair?

It's your car, if you don't like the top, then get rid of it. I don't mind the looks of vinyl tops, but I don't like them because they hold in moisture and ultimately will rot out your roof (if it's not already).

i think these cars look better with just the plain painted steel roof but its your car. if you do keep the top i'd rip it off and see whats hiding under there and then have it redone. give it a good coating of something while its bare
