So my 1970 2door currently has a 200ci mated with a strong C4. I want to stay away from the mainstream 302 and 351W.... I want some honest opinions and facts on replacing with either a 300ci I6 or a 289 V8.
    any thoughts on the matter?

also my Mav is going to be a "show and go" / Sunny day cruiser

65 and up 289 will drop right in like a 302...The 300 six takes a bit of craftyness to fit in...(Its' longer than a V-8 or the original 6)

300 wont fit without some major modifications so unless your ready to cut your car up thats out, now the 289 is a good high reving engine that can be built to the hilt and be dependable a lot of people are doing the Fuel injected 5.0 but the wiring harness and comptuer are fun to install.

If I was to do another Mav the shock towers would be gone and a 408 stroker would be sitting in the engine bay.

BTW hope to see you at Cruisin Colby event :Handshake

I would be a real MAVERICK and go the 300 route!!!

We have all already done the 289/302/5.0 routine.

Yeah man, if a 351w is too mainstream for you a 289 sure ain't gonna cut it. I'd love to see a well done 300 swap.

I'm defiantly a big block guy, but I really dont like the MPG and $$$ sound that comes with a big boy.. lol thus the reason of the 300, from what i understand it'll produce some big boy torque with reasonable fuel efficiency. Like i said before this will become a "cruiser" that I hope will be able to put down some good numbers on a track.

So it sounds to me that a 300 I6 is the nonmainstream way to go LOL
P.S. custom work of cutting welding and creating stuff to make it work is all part of the fun isn't it?

300 is a mainstream staple in the truck world.

If you wanna be anti mainstream install a 255 lol

What ever happened to the guy doing the 2.3L Turbo from a T-bird? That sounded like a peppy and economical project.

2.3 with a volvo 4V head would be the coolest build ever.

but it wont be easy on the wallet!

You want to stay away from mainstream? I would find an old flathead V8 and stuff in there, that would be cool and they sound mean (y). Just would take some work to be a powerhouse.

People would just assume the 289 was a 302. Might even assume the 300 was a 250. You need a new boss or something with overhead cams or even a modern V6.
