I have the Maverick in front of the house for sale and a group of kids (15/16yr.olds) gathered around it. I was in the garage so I could hear them talking. The "coolest" kid in the bunch proceeds to tell his friends that his dad owns 2 `68 Camaros and that they would blow this one away because his dad installed a cat-back system and a cold air intake. Oh, and that they ride on 24's. However, the color on my Camaro is much better than his dad's. So I told this young man that he should tell his dad to buy my car because it's one of the few, rare 4-door Camaros from Brazil. . Poor kid.
That was good. I was at the big swap meet in Moultrie, GA two years ago and was admiring a 1964 R-Code Galaxie. I was standing behind two guys while one was telling the other, "That ain't no 427. Ford never made a 427; only Chevy did and I can tell that ain't a Chevy 427 because the distributor is up front." I walked around them and was looking under the hood when the encylopedia of car knowledge says to me, "Can you believe the owner says that is a 427 engine." I said, "Yep. Ford made a mean 427. It's the same block design as the 390 and the 428. This is factory original with the dual carbs and cast iron headers. This is the engine they advertised at a measly 425 HP." Mr. Brilliant said, "Yeah, I know. That's what I was just telling him (nodding to his buddy)
I 've had a flagger on a road construction ask me if my car was a barracuda......I've had a person at a rest area on the interstate ask me" What year javelin that was"....he about fainted when I told him it was a ford
I drove the yellow mav to work a couple nites last week....had a new employee ask me "is that a duster".....once I realized he wasn't joking I used the word "had" at the start of this post.
ive got one about myself! yeah I know im stupid. When I first saw the car i bought when it was for sale, I actually thought it was an AMC or something I spent a long time on the internet trying to find out what it was, and I decided it was some sort of AMC. Then I finally saw the Maverick nameplate on the side of the car one day. I was like maverick?? w t h is that?? That was about 2 years ago and I didnt know crap about old cars. laugh all you want i think its pretty funny myself
That is funny.....I can picture why you thought it was an AMC. The Ford Maverick was hidden behind the Mustang, but we (all of us)haven't forgotten the real #1-the Maverick
