Rather than to do this myself, I am forking out the $$$$ for my shop guys to do this. Jessie, is $100 an hour but very competent. This was only the 2nd 3 mile jaunt the car made. The brakes pulled badly to the left. The carb high idle was too high. But we did have brake lights!!! Jessie built for the shop owner a 66 Falcon 351w demon. There is a fully built 302 sitting on the floor of the shop that might end up in my garage. Who knows, I might install it into my boat....or another Ford project. I can get it on the reasonable. Here is the GT up on the rack, with the 3 speed down on the floor and the 4 speed waiting. My instructions were to pull the clutch. While I am not a street racer (at one time yes....), I told Jessie to put quality products back into the GT. The previous 4 speed TL took out the throw-out bearing. It was gone. Maybe cheap product, but we suspect the pilot bearing. I walked the car very carefully looking at the under carriage. I can see where I put a floor jack on the sheet metal way back in the 80's. I see the original color. He said he would cut the turbo mufflers off and install Flowmaster 400's for me. I'm off to Sacramento today bailing out a driver who is sick with his litter of kids. I hope to get my GT back this week. The credit card is ready, albeit, I probably will choke. I did look at the car very carefully up on the rack. No rust what-so-ever other than surface rust from its 26 yr respite in the garage.
I did this same swap years ago with a 3 speed Plymouth Duster - went with a 4 speed out of a 340 Duster and it was the best thing I could have done at the time - lots more fun with that extra gear
If Zeidrach was for hire I would of hired him out....but alas, Z must of crushed his Hornet. I swong by today at the shop. Flowmasters on the ground. TL 4 speed installed. New clutch. New flywheel. (lightened up one from the new century of metals), so... other than handing them the credit card....we might have a runner ready to cruise in this weekend.
