Can anyone tell me the towing capacity on 72 Mercury Comet with a stock 302 or where I may be able to find the info. Thx, Rick
Tow bar... ...I took one off of the parts car I used for the bumper swap. It was rusted chrome I believe. I don't know if I trashed that or not. It had some bends in it. I looked at it to see if there were a way to modify it to be removed/installed with lock pins. I thought it might be nice if I wanted to paint my Sea-Doo red to match.....nah!!! If anyone wants it and I didn't trash it, let me know. Seth
Thx for the info Comet.. thats not very much of a capacity. I guess pulling the Mave behind the Comet is out of the question
Rick- Think 'fabrication' Strengthen framerails, add subframe connectors, four leaf springs, air bags if needed. You could make it happen. Get the torch out...
I pulled many a Mavericks home behind my Sprint. Thats when it was still a 6 banger. Of course, I flat towed it and it was short distances. If you want to flat tow the Maverick, this could easily be done. The biggest limitations to towing capicity would be the hitch and brakes. If you have a hitch made that bolted to your frame, your capicity would be greatly increased. Flat towing another car, tongue weight will not be a factor and you would not need to beef up the rear suspension on the Comet. Put 4 wheel disc on the Comet and I personally would feel comfortable towing one behind the other. I would also add a transmission cooler and subframe connectors as courier11sec suggested.
