Who's bars did you put on ? I've got Lakewood's on mine with 15x10 wheels (5 inch B/S) and 295 50-15 tires. They're nowhere near the tire sidewalls.

they need to be close to the front spring eye to function properly, you can trim the areas that stick out also if you need to on the universal bars

I ground down the corners on mine rounded, they were really close to my tire with the 14'' Magnum 500 wheels.

You really want the rubber bumper centered under the front spring eye. Otherwise the bars will kill the springs and you wont get the full effect/use of what the traction bars are for.

    Same here.
I had 245s on a set of 6" wide Magnums with 4.5" b/s on my 75, years ago.
The Lakewoods have the sharp corners and 'machined' a groove into the sidewalls.

I cut the corners back a bit and rounded all sharp points.

8" wide rim seems really wide for 245s?

Anyway, you can 45 cut the tips off the square corners, and round everything dull. Make sure the snubber is under the front eye of the springs, or very close. Then make sure the snubber is no further than 1/2" from touching. I set mine for 1/4" gap. Washers used as shims between the mounts and bottom of the spring works well for this. If you set the gap any closer than 1/4", you can feel the car hit the snubbers when you go over dips/bumps at highway speed. If you set the snubber too far away from touching, the traction bars are useless. I like mine very close because the rubber snubbers give alot when they hit. If you use poly or aluminum snubbers, then you can go closer to 1/2" gap and still have the bars function.

I see guys all the time with the bars hanging inches from the springs and just laugh because you know they are useless for anything but hanging up on speed bumps!:biglaugh:

Alot of folks scoff at the universal bars, but they DO work when set up properly.

    Edit:
I'd like to point out that on the 75, when the above mentioned tire damage occured, that the traction bars were NOT touching the tires when the car was parked. They appeared plenty far from the tires when you looked under the car. However, they still ground into the tires. Probably when turning corners or going over uneven surfaces, making the sidewalls flex/bow.
