hi guys.. question the cross member on my mav is bent in such a way that it only allows for single exhaust .....any of you that have seen my mav saw that i have the side pipes on it they fit ok even without the tranny crossmember being shaped for dual exhaust but the problem of course is that the left side pipe is right up against it and vibrates thru the whole car ..so my question is where can i get one ? the on that came out of the 75 v8 donor car didnt line up and i tried one from an unkown year early model mustang still didint fit is there an after market peice available that anyone knows of ? thanks
The 69 1/2 / 70 cars used a different floor pan. They were never designed for the V8 or bucket seats. The v8 crossmemeber can be used but modifications will need to be made. There is discussion in this post on what to do http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=12066&highlight=trans+crossmember
thanks for the info i think what i might try is getting another single hump one and cutting it in half then welding the other half of the other single hump one wich would then give me a dual hump .... of course this looks good on paper lol
looks like the same one i had that wouldnt work but thanks i think the only way out is to take to single hump ones cut them and weld the 2 humps back together.. on an off note if any one has the radio plate that bolts under the dash for installation of the radio .. i sure could use one
I tried that one on my 72 Maverick and it was to short by 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Thay look the same but are diferant length from mounting hole to mounting hole.
After reading this thread, I dug out my V8 crossmember and crawled under my '70. Looking at the crossmember, it appears that the left side mounting hole is about 3/4" further off center than the right side hole. It looks like trimming the left side and moving the hole to make it a mirror image of the right side is what is needed. Does that sound right (to someone that has done it)?
I have a '70 Maverick and the tranny crossmember, a double humper from a '73 Comet "GT" fit right in. Smooth as silk. Do not know of any aftermarket sources for that part. I do have a single hump for a six banger the original out of the '70. If you want to cut and weld!!!
