I'm collecting parts to swap out my C4 to a manual. I have a Mustang 4 spd and a 250 belhousing. Most everything else is bone stock. 250 cu 6 and all. 1. Should I do it ? 2. shift kit the C4 3. 4 speed 4. 5 speed
I am not much of a 3rd pedal guy....my first car was a 5 speed....loved it, but the older I get and the traffic and what not...I would not want a clutch....ever! I thought about that when we cruise into Somernites....man a stick would be a PITA!
Banging gears is where the fun is. Automatics are great for tow vehicles and luxury cars but for fun, get rid of the sissy stick. Anyone can drive an automatic.
I'm with Dennis, manual all the way. I voted 5 speed. I absolutely love driving my dad's 5 speed '95 Mustang GT, and can't wait to get a 5 speed in my '69 1/2.
When I was a kid, and muscle cars ruled the world, anything without a stick was for girls. I know that this attitude is very "cro-magnum", but it continues to affect my perception of what a performance car should be like today whether I like it, or not. I spent the big bucks and effort to make mine a stick because of the memories I associate with banging thru the gears. John B
Nothing Like Rippin' Thru Some Gears On A Saturday Night On The Edge Of Town, I Voted 5 Speed (although 4 Would Be Good But The Advantage Of An Overdrive Gear Is Well Worth It!)
Gotta do the 5 speed... You can get a low 1st gear (and lower the rear gear if you like), then drop it into OD...
no doubt a 4 or 5 speed would be fun....every now and then But if you drive it more than a weekend every now and then.....I still sayed it would get old. I will "stick" to being a sissy
My daily driver is a 5 spd and I love it. Rush hour traffic in So.Cal is still not a problem. I just finished the T-5 install in my '63 Ranchero and it is a blast to drive. I used a WC 6 cyl trans. It's got a lower first gear and taller 5th. I have to get to about 65 mph before I can shift into 5th. At 70 in 5th I'm doing 2000 rpm. My reservation is just cutting up my oh so stock Grabber.
Maverick will be harder then the Ranchero. I'm game. You buy the parts for your car and we work as a team. I'll buy the parts as well for mine and we can do a two fer
