I just came in from the garage after doing a basic fluid/filter change on my C4. Upon loosening the filter for removal a spring and a valve type object fell into the drip pan. It looks like a pressure regulator valve. When I first purchesed the vehicle, I drove it a couple of miles before putting it up for it's tear down, and it ran fine. Just wondering if this has happened to anyof ya'll. I will someday be replacing the trans, but till then, I'm wondering if it's safe to drive. Thanks:confused:
This sounds like the same thing that fell out of my pan. What I was told was that it was put into the fill hole when new so nothing would get into the pan before fluid was added to the trans. at the factory. Yes it is ok to drive. Dean
I have to disagree because my lesson was an expensive one.. ..the same thing happened to me a few years ago...I didn't know it had fallen out,a few days later....all of my forward gears went out ,and I was 60 miles from home. Your tranny needs this to survive. Look at the filter closely and you will be able to tell where it goes...I use petroleum jelly to help hold in place while installing the filter.... :bananamanHotrod-Daddy
The item was metal, shaped like a round "T" with a small concaved dish at the top of the "T". The spring fits around the lower part of the "T". The "T" is about as big as a small sheet metal screw.
Can you post a picture of the item that was found, because it sounds like the item I am speaking of and it does not go anywhere in the tran. Dean
I looked around the area underneath the filter and the only area I saw that had any type of "hole" was the hole leading to the internal parts of the tranny
If this is the part I am speaking of the hole that this goes in is the dip stick hole. It was put there befor the dip and filler stick was put into place. This was inside the pan.
Go to the home page of the form and bring up my threads and read the one on foreign part in tranny and see if this sounds like what you have found. Dean
the hole is about the size of one of the screw holes that houses the filter attaching screw...count the holes for the screws, now count the holes in the filter....bet they don't match
Eureka! Hotrod-Daddy was right-Crawled back down there and noticed a hole adjacent to one of the filter bolt holes. It's actually held in place by a lip on the filter. My question now is when you placed yours back in, did the spring go in first or last? I'll be finishing up tomorrow. Thanks :bananaman
