I have this Ford trans That I got a few years back Iwas wondering if someone here could Identify it for me or tell me if It would fit in a 70 Mustang.

OK This is what is on a tag on the right side of trans
    RAI BS
    017780

    This is on fork side
    CSAR
    7006 followed by a large "C"

    This is on the tail
    RF-CTR
    TAO-40-B
    W 2N

Theres a sheet metal cover on top. The forks are on the side. The tailshaft is short with the "U" bolts mounted in a casting on the tailshaft.
This trans was on a 302 motor in a truck.

I hope you guys dont mind me busting in here asking all these questions, but I didnt know where else to get advice

Thanks in advance for any help you could give.

    Scott,
It would help a lot if you could give a bit more information. Is it a three or four speed?
Internal or external shifter? Do you have any pictures?

Just an old 3.03 3 speed trans. My '71 F250 has the same trans. It will not work in your Mustang because it has a fixed yoke tail shaft.

The yoke cant be removed? Or is there a problem with tailshaft splines?

The tailshaft is supported by a ball bearing that needs the bolt on yoke to locate it.
You could have a driveline made for it - two piece.
If you replace the output shaft and extension housing you could use a slip yoke in it.
These trannys are cheap and fairly easy to find - just about every three speed Ford put out had one in it - so it would be cheaper to just find one for a car and sell the one that you have.
