Hey guys I have a 351w to c4 setup I'm trying to install and I need to know some bolt torque down specs. They are transmission mount to transmission, transmission mount to crossmember. Motor mount to frame mount, and motor mount to engine block. Thanks for any help.

tranny mount to tranny 40-60 ft/lbs.
tranny mount to crossmember 30-50 ft/lbs.
motor mount to frame mount 20-30 ft/lbs.
motor mount to engine 35-60 ft/lbs.

specs from Ford Service Manuals, use oil or anti-seize on threads.

all of that stuff we just tighten real good and thats it. weve never had a problem
Ive never thought about the torque specs on those parts always just thought they had to be good and tight

Thank you dyent. Originally i was just going to make them real tight but would rather have them torqued to specs.

with this torque spec. what are you going to torque it to...
don't forget to have your torque wrench calibrated before you start...:yup:

I would just go and use a setting in the middle along with lube/anti-seize and you'd be good to go.........

why do you have to guess what the right torque number is?

who knows with Ford, all those specs where right from their 5 volume Shop Service Manuals that I have for 1974. Even my 68 Service Manual for Mustang had a range, but within 10 ft/lbs, perhaps they where covering for different bolt grades from 2 to 8....after looking at the chart below, kind of makes more sense now.

Here is link to site with torque specs for bolts:

    https://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-information/bolts/US-Recommended-Torque.aspx

site also has chart for markings of various grades etc.,

I kinda see your thinking but...they know what size/pitch the bolt is for the application so still ...why the 25 ft/lbs range?
...motor mount to engine 35-60 ft/lbs...
even at that the bolts listed for the motor mounts are 3/8" grade 5 and the torque for them are are only 3 ft/lbs from Course-Fine ( not 25 ).

    my motor spec... Mount-to-Engine Block Bolts 37 ft/lbs...M10x1.5 (3/8" = 9.525 m/m)

    sorry...this has always been a pet-peve of mine...:bouncy:

I found this way back when I was doing my Machinist Apprenticeship 35 years ago, see the notation below the chart, especially #2. (sorry about chart being on its side.......)

Also, the motor mount to engine block bolt is 7/16 - 14 with 4 center marks, which would indicate it is a grade 6 bolt and using the chart below, 55 ft/lbs. the threads are also triangular shape (not round) which acts as a locking type device. Even those tranny mount to crossmember nuts are Flanged/Stover nuts are again triangular shaped to act as locking nut. So when one starts taking into account grade of bolt 5,6 or 8, using lube or not etc, etc., yes, I can see why there is such a range........

I would just go and use the chart below, check bolt thread size, grade and cross reference with torque spec and Bob's your uncle........

my point...Ford Motor Co. knows what type of bolt that is being used in each application, so why give such a broad range torque spec?
agree the chart tell us what to torque each of the different bolts but Ford chose the 7/16" bolt for... the motor mount to engine block bolt...
referring back to my specs, they only give one setting...they know what bolt is being used...:yup:
