im new here so i dont know too much. im looking for a good manual transmission. i want to have an impressive 0-70 or a little more but dont care too much about top speed. i also want the higher gear (4 or 5 or 6) to produce a good gas mileage. i would prefer a five or even a six speed but im not sure if they are able to work on this car. could you guys help me figure out what kind of transmission i should start looking for with the above desired capabilities?
you want a t-5 trans. the ones to get are out of 87-93 mustangs. do a search on t5 swap and lots of info will come up on this site. you will also want to regear the rear diff to 3.80 gears. doing those two things will get you what your asking for.
thanks for your help! are those hard transmissions to find or not so hard to find but cost a lot? oh and whats the 9 inch rear end mean? also what is the difference between the stock trans and a top loader?
t-5s you can find just about every where search the transmission part of the tech threads and youll find alot of people who have done it or the tech articles theres some there on how and what youll need and the cost. do you have a manual in your car or is it an auto c4?
the maverick comes with what is called a 8". that refers to the diameter of the ring gear in the diff. the 9" diff has a bigger ring gear and other biger componets. that makes it a stronger diff than the 8".
