transmission pause?

    When I put my car into gear it doesn't go for a moment. It pauses, then catches and goes into gear and drives just fine. It does well going from neutral into reverse, changes gears fine automatically once it gets going, but it pauses before going from neutral into drive. Any ideas on things I could check or repair? It's a C4 automatic tranny. :cry:
