When I bought my maverick it still had its factory installed enormously gaudy full length "elite" trim kit. After a long time of thinking I decided to remove it. I like the chrome around the windows and the chromed drip rails above the doors, but the trim along the length of the body was just too much. Has anyone else ran into anything like this?

My 72 had the thin trim,I removed it and welded the holes shut.Sounds like yours has the LDO trim package (luxury Decor Option)Some would kill for that stuff some dont care for it,some may want to buy the stuff from you if you remove it.I guess its up to you ultimately. You will end up with holes to fill/weld if you remove it.Take it off with out damageing it.Like I said someone may want it,could be $$ in your hand.Good luck.Oh and welcome to the board, great place to be if you own a Mav/Comet wealth of knowledge here.

It definitely did have the LDO kit. It had the full cloth interior (Including headliner) and all. I did take care removing it. It was nice, I just preferred the smoother lines down the side is all. I took it off maybe a week ago and filled the holes. I cracked/broke one of the trim pieces but the others look quite good. Thanks for the welcome. Since I drove my '74 Maverick home I've been looking for a good place to learn more about it. Seek and ye shall recieve, huh?

im with you man, i hate the side trim. but when you pull it your going to have to address the holes.

my mav had a skinny trim down the side but the coet has the full wide LOD stuff. im not a fan of either

I had the small stuff too, but i like the mavericks clean lines also. So mine was taken off and welded up. if you click on the camera icon you can see how mine came out. good luck.:)

I sanded around the holes real good and mixed up some fiberglass resin and spread it on. Worked pretty good. once I got it sanded and primered you couldn't tell the holes were ever there. I didn't take the trim off the front fenders yet, but I'm replacing them next year. (Rust blossom problems)

I followed the link. Great job. Love the blue. I'm planning to go with a darker blue on mine eventually.

Ah! I wondered if anyone would recognize him. Yep, I was lucky enough to find a box of devil's due (The publishers of radiskull and devil doll) comics at a yard sale about 3 years ago.
