Ok, I finally got my carpet out of the box and into the car I haven't had carpet for nearly 5 years...bought the carpet in February and it has been in the box in my office since. It is a one-piece, and it isn't fitting yet, and is just sitting on the floorboard "settling" for the 12-24 hour period. Initial fit looks pretty good, but hard to tell at this point. Anyway, bottom of the box is a Trimparts stamped grommet, pretty good sized, maybe 3" diameter with a 1" hole. Anyone know what this is for?
I also have the one piece carpet.....I really haven't looked at the bottom of the box,but I would say it is for the shifter if equipped with a floor shifter
I think you guys are right about the dimmer switch...the hole in the middle would be perfect size for that, and it has a fairly large plastic ring around it to protect the carpet as I kick at it... I haven't gotten the carpet flattenend out enough to even tell if it goes up far enough to hit the switch...remember, I haven't had carpet since very soon after I got it, so it has always been bare floor up there as far as I am concerned.
I vote A/C condensate drain. Edit: or does that go behind the front edge of the carpet? Hmm Scott I hope you have some heat shield you are planning to install before the carpet.
I was wondering about a heat shield...Any suggestions? Something inexpensive that will keep the heat and noise out (not all the noise, I still want to hear my flowmasters when I get them) The carpet just has a jute backing, and all that tarpaper stuff was nasty and I threw it all away.
You can get it at Summit, Jegs, JC Whitney, Lowes. I already had some from JC Whitney, and I was strolling through Home Depot one day and they had water heater blankets -- the same exact stuff, so I bought a roll and put it in the 77. Probably not as good as the more expensive stuff, but it does a pretty decent job. And you can still hear the Flows plenty.
Cool!!! That is what I am looking for. Something that is made "like" the automotive stuff, but not a specialty item "for" automotive...which, for some reason, quadruples the price I was hoping someone would be able to suggest Hardware store items that would work. The JEGS stuff was looking like $50-100 for floor covering, which seems kinda steep considering the carpet was only $125...
I bought new carpet recently too. The thing you're talking about is to surround the dimmer switch. I haven't installed my carpet yet. It sounds like I'll have to let it settle for a while. Matt, are you talking about the silver blanket or the insulation with white backing? I haven't seen the silver blankets here, sound like I need to look harder.
It has been in the car for a few days setting...for the first day or so, I was really worried about how it looked, but now it has almost settled to a point where it looks like it is already installed. I will have to be out of town next weekend for a cousin's graduation, but will be looking for that silver-backed insulation, if i can find it. Sounds like a pretty good idea Then the following weekend, if we can keep from making any plans, I just might have my car back together and ready to drive again:bananaman
I seen some of the thermal shield stuff over at "Sachse rod shop" for (I think) $25. It looked pretty big and I am planning to go get it sometime this week. More later...
Yeah, that stuff. Here is the JC Whitney stuff: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/...10475/p-2010475/N-111+10201+600002669/c-10101 The only pic I can find of mine installed, before I put the carpet in:
