Has anybody tried fitting 4-lug wheels off of an english 2-seater (like a Triumph or MG) to a Mav/Comet? I was at the junkyard yesterday and they had a bunch of little english two-seaters. I saw a few sets of 4-lug wheels that looked like they might work on my Comet, just wondering if anybody has tried it yet and if the backspacing and bolt locations are correct. I think they might work because I found this page for Triumph Spitfire wheels: http://www.triumphspitfire.com/wheels.html And on that page I recognized this wheel as being shown in "The Ford Falcon Six Cylinder Performance Handbook" but they didn't point out the type of wheel it was: http://www.triumphspitfire.com/images/wheels/Librewheel.jpg Jason
If they will then vega gt wheels will fit, that is what I have on my Morris Minor ( MG ) stands for Morris Garage
i was thinken about a set of 240 z wheels once i tryed them and they dident fit. you can have the rims "milled" to be uni lug and then use concentric washers and bolts that will fit. but having rims milled is exspencive.
CometKurt, Almost, I just bought it in New Hampshire. It may have come from Maine though I don't know but I have the original title and registration in the car so I could check. I was checking out American Racing's page and they actually have a couple nice wheels that I think will work. Does anybody have these: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=ARE-A695748&N=700+115&autoview=sku They come 4x4 1/2" at 15"x7" with 4" backspacing for $156 at Summit. They're a bit much but they look like they would be nice on a Comet. I really like the Libre (the one I linked in the original post) but they don't make it anymore. Most likely I will end up doing a 5-lug swap though, but it'd be nice if they made a decent 4-lug wheel. Jason
Just for reference, here is a link to a bunch of the english cars I saw at Henry's Auto Salvage in Blackstone MA. It's a nice salvage yard and they put pictures of a lot of their vehicles up online. Some of the wheels are easier to see than others and the set I really wanted to try isn't on there, but just in case anybody is interested here they are, Triumphs first. Just make sure of what you want to do first. No sense spending money on nice wheels if you're going to change to the 5 lug rear. There's a lot more choices for rims with the 5 lug. also a lot more used ones too. Nice looking car. Good luck with it.
yup i was going to buy that car for 3,000 but you got to it first! congrats i was going to make a gt clone out of it. if you hear of another decent comet in the new england area could you let me know? pluss you should come up and look for wheels at the junk yard i go to he has amc,and ford wheels pluss 8 mavs and comets. he also has a set of anson sprint aluminum slots that are 4 lug they might fit.i live in oxford county maine by nh.
Comet Kurt, Those look like the American Racing slotted mags that I was looking at for $156 new on Summit. I think those would look nice on a Comet, do you know how much he wants for them? It might be worth the drive up there if I can get them at a reasonable price. Jason
ill have to call him but he might take 200 for all 4. they need to be polished badly the pic i posted isnt the ones that are at the yard. ill call him and find out right now what lug they are.
Careful there ... if they are Mustang II, they are a different bolt circle. Got in deep doo-doo working at Goodyear in 1980 and trying to set up a Mustang II with some early pattern mags ... bad day .... :16suspect
this might be of some assistance as far as cross-referencing different vehicles and wheels http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/WheelBoltPatterns.txt
