ok so I have a 72 maverick with power steering and Column shifter, and BENCH SEATS. me and my mom (im 16) were going into autozone and i saw a Z-gate cable shifter for 129$ and i said, hey mom........"look at this baby" she was like NO Patrick you wont ruin the "integrity" of the car buy putting a floor shifter on it. So......... i was wondering if anybody has put a Z-gate/ cable shifter WITH bench seats. and any pictures would be great too
At 16, a column shifter and bench seat can be your friend. When I was 16, girlies hated buckets, consoles and shifters, something about it hurt their backs or something like that...:evilsmile
psh,i'm 16 also dude truth is they like the bucket seats ya sit in the back seat and they lean back on the folded forward front seat....
Unless you are going to do it right, like getting a floor shift steering column and all that, I would leave it alone. I've always thought aftermarket automatic floor shifters looked goofy with a bench seat.
well i looked a lot of the threads concerning the floor shifter swap and i think that i might as well do it because i will get headers sometime in the near future
Hey you are 16 and you are going to do what you want anyway.LOL If you want a floor shifter in your bench seat car so be it. Just make sure to keep the cable clear of exhaust and sharp holes in floorboard
yeah i will try to get it away from the exhaust but , i thought the same thing i should be able to do what i want with my car right? no. oh well i will just have to go junkin and find a floor shifter column OR i might just take off or grind down the lever and take off the gear indicator and No one will know except me!! ha.
i really dont like the looks of the z-gate. i like classic looking shifters with the black rubber boot on the floor, the ones people alway confuse with a manual shifter lol on like derek's above is what im talking about you cant get much done in the front seat anyway, i usually have to take business into the rear
well if i had a T5 laying around i might do that..but i dont....thanks for all the comments and pictures. anymore?
Try using an old Mustang shifter, a '66 0r '67. It is small, looks like it belongs there, and works well with the bench.
Is this your car? And if it is how do you find it for leg room with the bench and a stick?I have the seat all the way back and it still seems a bit cramped.
