When I first disassembled my Mav I took the trunk lid off. As you know, the arm on the driver's side just hangs down when not attached to the lid. The side you're dealing with sticks pretty much straight up because of the tension bar, if memory serves me right. I put some downward pressure on mine to see how much resistance there was from the tension bar, and suddenly, it snapped down and stayed down. I don't remember exactly what I did (it's been a couple of years) but I got the bar to come up again (Ithink by re-setting the tension bar), but now the whole passenger side bar seems to be moved more towards the front of the car with the end result being that it hits the inside edge of the trunk opening, just like yours.
I haven't been able to figure out how to correct the problem since. My project is a couple of years from completion, so it hasn't been urgent, but someday I need to solve this problem some day too!
How did yours get this way? Did you press it down too?

Mine did that when it went down too far and the spring pops out of its location on pass side and binds it all up. Take the spring pressure off by removing it of the drivers side then reinstall the spring correctly on the pass. side. Its a bit of a B to figure out. Maybe someone has a good pic??

I think if you put the lid back on you will be able to take it back down. then just leave it down.

Man! I thought you would have gotten an answer and had it fixed by now. Is your tension rod out? Looks like it's laying there.

Here is a pic of it with me applying slight pressure to remove it. You lift the whole hinge and lay the hooks onto the spring. Then you go and lift the spring on the driver side to probobly the highest adjustment. I have to use the highest because I have a spoiler. It uesd to be on the second or third one before I added it. I made a short video clip if you like. I don't know how to load it here. I can email it to you if you want.

When you say bar, are you talking about the arm that attaches to the trunk lid? If that is hitting maybe something is bent or needs adjustment. I have not had to look into mine that far so I will look at it later and see if there is a way to adjust that, unless someone else answers that before.

Great. Do you have the rod back on it? Lets hope it all lines up going back together.
