My '77 has Bobcat tail lights. The Bobcat tail lights are bascically an enlongated Maverick/Pinto tailight with an extra reflector. So, I took an old pair of Maverick tailights (thanks Earl - he gets the lenses and bezels back) and cut them to fit the reflector side of the Bobcat tail lights. I'm going to wire it up to be an additional brake light. The first two pics are of the Bobcat and Maverick tail lights. The last two pics are after the modification. Once I mount them and wire them up, I'll post an update. Edit: BTW, these are not the Bobcat tailights on the car, now. I was using another set to make sure I could everything to work before I made the modification on excellent pair.
Looks like a good idea, but I'd go ahead and wire in the extra tail lights, too. Can never have too much light on the rear!
Sounds like a neat idea... I wonder how it will look though with the reflector side lit up compared to the side that was designed for bulbs? Probably a very different effect. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product!
this is what they will look like when he is finished...i did these about 2 yrs. ago. 4 running lights, 4 brake lights and 2 turn lights on each side...frank...
I'm going to be using the original relector lenses. When I took both sets of lights apart, I saw no visible difference in the translucent quality of the lenses. I shown a light through the light sockets and I like the looks of the light through the reflector side of the Bobcat lights. I will have mine mounted and lit up this weekend. I will post pictures of them on the car at that time.
OK Terry, where's the update you promised? I am looking at doing mine that way & wanted to see how yours turned out using the reflector lenses.
OOOPS! I'll try and take pictures after the sun goes down some this evening. I'll post pics of the lights off, with parking lights on, with emergency flasher on, and with brakes on. It's Frank's Fault. I got discombulated with him calling me from Kentucky two weekends in a row. It's also Jamie's fault because I haven't gotten over the shock of him having a real job.
