Here is the continuation of the Maverick Pickup tub job. Here is what the "subframe extensions"look like with the bottom cut out ready for the 2x2 to be inserted, they ended up being 44 1/2" long from seam at factory crossmember to front side of rear crossmember, which gives a dimension of 23 3/4 from rear face of rear crossmember to center of rearend housing.I plated inside rail where rear crossmember attaches, for strenth, notice rear crossmember and (rear)rear crossmembers are welded inside factory rails and not run "through"rail, even though I have a chassis bench and car doesn't move cutting it up,I like if possible, if I can lay out where tires will be and to put rails in,and cage, then cut every thing out afterwords, this would work well if you are doing a job like this on jack stands and have no way to hold vehicle. After everthing is cut out and trimmed for tubs I'll go back and cut factory rails off even and flush with new crossmembers and block plate them in.The rear rails ended up being 24"oto,and the rear tires are 31x18.50s which leave lots of clearance inside and out, actually 28s or 29s fit better under a stock wheel opening,we'll modify these a little for more clearance.I managed to get rear frame rails fit today also but I'll show them in a day or so,all this needs finish welded before I go much further.Stay Tuned!!!!

Well, heres the next update.Notice the first picture compared to the last you just keep trimming away a little more floor and structure as you know what can come out.The most important thing here is,think...measure...think..measure somemore.it's a lot easier to weld together than cut apart, you want level and square and perpendicular, the rails ended up being 24" OTO,and when fitting rails or anything on an angle, always leave way long, because when you take lenth from something angled,it will shorten way more than you thought.Notice all the factory rails are still in the car to keep everything in alighnment.Stay tuned, shortly we'll be wackin everything out and shovin'them 31-18.50s under it!Jack

What do you estimate this will cost your customer?

I usually tell my customers, the best estimate I can give and I"ve tubbed about 12 or 13 of them is,if you drove your Maverick(or whatever) into my shop with rear wheels and tires bought,I would tub it , 9" rear,Moser axles, posi, cage,(plastic)fuel cell, drum rear brakes, alum.fuel line, brake lines, tubs and all tin work, ready to paint,6500.00 to 7500.00,Detroit Locker,Aluminum cell,Disc Rears, are all "extras" and it usually works out really close to that figure,of course if you do your own brakes, fuel lines, buy your own 9" center..ect...that all saves money .Action Race Products,Jack

Here is an update on the "pickup",I've closed in the back of the "cab"area, bent up the rear roll bar,(still needs the front done),tied the bar into the rear rails through the back of the cab, then cut the factory rails out,and shoved them big 'ol 31x18.50s in there, sure looks different with them big tires on it.For you guys that wanted him to retain the 70s "flavor"he brought the blue seat in to fit the cage and he's going to leave the upholstery the same as it was,as it's in perfect shape....Hey maybe he will leave the lace on the roof after all!
P.S.An addition to the previous post, that price includes, coil overs with ladder bars,4 link extra.
