What does that sound like? Been flogging the new end the last few days and under hard acceleration when I hit second there is a dull thud from the rear area. Also when I hit third it is there again. Almost sounds like the u-bolts shifting or something, kinda of a strange sound and sensation. It is only under hard acceleration though.. Any ideas??

And it gave you a dull thud on shifts? Guess I will be getting CalTracs sooner than I thought...The bars I took off will not clear the 275's...SPH

I'd still check the u-joints also. Traditionally, they give a rhythmic scraping sound when the shaft is turning. This is not always the case, of which I'm intimately familiar. When the u-joints went on my Jeep, there was vibration especially at higher speeds. When I shifted into gears, there was more of a thump at the rear end. Mind you, this is an automatic, but there are still forces at work when you engage the clutch just as an auto. Replacing them corrected all of the problems. U-joints are possibly the one of the most neglected components of rear and 4wd cars we have. We seldom think about them until something feels wrong with the drive train.

I agree with you. (one word...driveshaft loop!) I planon replacing them soon. I am still wondering if I am also hearing the springs bind. Have always ran traction bars until now.. Scotty P
