random but this morning i decided to pull up the fake dynomat that was in the trunk of the maverick with a heat gun and i was wrong i got the gas tank area cleared and there is tar everywhere any advice about taking the remainning tar off. there isnt enough to scrape it anymore. i was told diesel on a rag works. i figure i am going to fab some filler boards wrap them with leather like vinyl, but i dont know what to lay for the trunk floor
I would be more inclined to use something like mineral spirits rather than diesel, just because of the odor. Diesel fuel odor seems to linger forever.
Come on Gene, I always thought you were one of those "livin' on the edge, laugh in the face of danger" kind of guys.
i got most of the tar off the gas tank area i used a mixture of mineral spirits, diesel, water hose and something my father gave me. i used a heat gun gloves (i thought i could do it without those ha.) and a scraper. there is a little bit of tar but not enough to ruin my plans. thanks for the inputs i hope to have the trunk finished by the end of sept.
after i was done my father thought it was funny playing with the lighter near the gloves and caught them on fire. good thing they were welding gloves
Some things, like tar, require patience.. Some times you get lucky and it chips out and some times it's gooey and sticky. That's what I always get, gooey sticky :16suspect.
I have used brake clean and a wire brush on the tar. It works well for the cracks and crevices where panels meet, and it evaporates with no odor.
