Where can I find a replacement under hood insulation pad for a '74 Comet? Or what material do I use to make one if one is not available? Thanks
I've never seen one on our cars. When I wore a younger man's clothes, I made one out of a few of those fiberglass ceiling tiles to fit a '61 T-bird. I cut it to fit inside the cavities that are formed by the hood stiffening structure and used spray adhesive to hold it in there. Actually turned out pretty nice. I stumbled across the car recently and the current owner has left it in there so I consider that a testament to the quality of the work.
Yes...Mavericks had them. Specifically....the LDO package had it. It is a form fitted piece. I finally removed the one off of my 1974 LDO. It was drooping. I have saved it in case somebody ever wants to reproduce it...but I doubt we could find somebody to do the form fitted kind.
I've never seen a Maverick with one (and I've seen hundreds). They retain heat and dirt, and I personally would not want one on my Maverick...
I think it had to do with the car having air conditioning. People don't seem to like them, but I think they were there for protection from the condensation. There are a few small pieces of it remaining and all of the retaining clips on my '74 Comet.
The 75 LDO parts car I have had one and it did not have A/C, but it is long gone and only the tattered pieces around the retaining fasteners are still there.
Most of the time they are missing ... but I see hoods here and there ... that have all the plastic hold down tabs but no pad.
Dearborn classics has some bulk pad about $30 you can make your own,,also has connectors. Several others on ebay sell retro pads, have not seen any for our cars.
