I saw a ford 302 gt40 engine that I was thinking about putting in my 72 comet and I want to get a strong manual tranny also, but I do not know what all this process intails. Anybody know what I need to do.

Assuming you already have a 302 in place, you will need a late top loader trans and a clutch operation setup. The trans mount may have to be fabbed as an addon to the existing crossmember.
The drive shaft may have to have a length change. The pully setup on the engine may need some changes depending on which way you want to go with the belts and accessories.
If you have to replace a 6 cylinder, then thing get more complicated. You now will need motor mounts, a V8 radiator, a new exhaust system and a number of small items in addition , if the car has an auto trans., you will need a clutch pedal assembly from a standard shift Mav.
This is an overview, so a peticular project will have its own set of conditions to be worked out.
