Unhooking speeometer cable

    Im trying to take out the dash cluster to take a look at the dash lights and people have suggested disconecting the speedometer cable, how do i go about unhooking the cable and where?

    That can be a very difficult job, especially first time. Expect sliced knuckles.

    You have to loosen the dash cluster, pull it forward as much as you can. Reach up behind it and cable has a plastic snap-on fastener. If you feel around it you can feel a little lever on it. Press it and pull. It may still take a bit of muscle after you have that lever pushed.

    I found, if you remove the ash tray, and the ash try support (2 or 3 screws) it's easy to reach in there and disconnect it.

    You can pull and replace the bulbs without removing the cluster...just reach up behind the cluster and twist the socket 90*

    I loosen the 3 steering column bolts and drop it a couple inches to get the cluster past the steering wheel.

    Oops sorry i forgot to specify they said to detach it from the transmission because it gives it extra slack behind the cluster Ive tried doing it without.. my hands are to big to get far enough back and ive alread pulled a couple bulbs they still work.
