Update on original 71 Grabber The stock 71 Grabber I bought a week ago has a much stronger engine than I had thought. New points, plugs, wires, filters, etc... and it RUNS GREAT! So much for what I thought was a tired 302. At 198,000 it has every right to be tired, but it goes to show how regular oil changes (documented) and one adult owner with a light right foot can keep an engine in good shape. It had a lopey idle and pulling the #7 plug wire had no effect--bad news. Then I checked #7 and wow, 140 PSI! New Autolite plug wires cured that (free with old lifetime Autolite warrenty papers that came with the car!) After the tune up, re-connecting the hose that had come off of the vacuum reservoir cannister cured the lopey idle (Doohh!). The hood hinges seem sloppy, do any other hinges interchange if you remove the springs? It sure looks lame with whitewalls!
pictures of the Grabber I am embarrassed to admit this, but after my wife was given a magazine article (by a co-worker--thanks a**hole!) about a 72 Grabber selling on E-Bay for $20K earlier this year, I was "convinced" to try to sell it before I dig into it too deeply. I know the car is not in the shape that 72 was, but it is worth more than I paid for it and she knows it. Such is the life of a married first time home owner with a 60 year old house ("think what you could do with the house with your time, you don't need another car project"). I thought mine was the only one to do that! Has done it for a coupla years now (since I had the car painted) 2ndGrabber---I wish I was closer. Would love to have the car, but the distance is just too great. Good luck with the sale. Preston
Don't bet all your eggs on that $20K Maverick because anybody that knows anything, dosent believe that price for a moment. I had a guy call me last week who saw the article and thought he had a gold mine in his back yard untill I explained the facts of life to him. You have a nice car and I hope you get what you want for it, but I'd almost bet money you wont be even close if your going by that article. Just as an educated guess, honest bids will probably be around $3500- $4500.
I know I will not come even close to a fraction of that, and the reserve is nowhere near that, but the spousal unit and I compromised with me at least offering it on E-Bay. I am not completely stupid, just married!
No, I am the moron (ha ha). I dated her (held out) for seven years first, does that count for agility points?
dmhines, you can adjust the hood hinges so the back of the hood does not raise at high speed, I had the same problem and found the hinges were tilted too much (I think fwd)which is easy to do with all the slop in the 3 bolt slots, it takes a couple of tries to get it right, also make sure the hood rubber stops are in good shape.
