Ok I've got a few questions. I'm going to reupholster the seats in my 72 Comet. First does anyone know of places to get the materials? I do know of SMS and got samples from them so far. I'm just wondering if anyone makes reproductions of the materials for cheaper. My seats are blue vinyl with blue checker cloth. My next question, does anyone know how many yards of each material I will need? The front seat is a bench. I'm trying to estimate the cost of the materials.

I bought 3 yards of the blue material for my Sprint.

Well it had seat covers for a long time. I'm finally doing a restoration of the car so time for upholstery.

The link for SMS is www.smsautofabrics.com

Dennis, so it took 3 yards for two bucket inserts and the backseat inserts?

It really depends on how the pattern runs on the insert material. My upholstery guy measured my seats and said he could get two bucket and my rear seat done with 2 yards of ComfortWeave so that is what I ordered. Turns out there was a defective area in the roll that SMS sent me so he had to cut around it. In the end he had to make the rear inserts a little narrower than factory to get it done. I really should have returned it to SMS and had them send me a good roll ... but it took almost 6 weeks for my upholster guy to get to them (he's very busy) and I didn't want to wait in line again and deal with SMS returns and reshipping. Plus car show season was coming up so I just had him make the rear inserts 1.5 inches narrower than factory. It is not noticable unless you compared it to another car with original upholstery.[IMG]

3 yards of the blue material did both buckets, rear seat, package tray, and door panels. Were just talking about the blue part. The white was standard stuff any upholstry shop carries.

Right. Hmm well that sounds about right then with what I was guessing. I was guessing about 4 yards for mine. Of course right now I'm just estimating. The blue vinyl I'm not worried about the cost of because of course that's easy to come by. Soon as I get the car running again I can drive it up to my dad's shop and get Josh to measure the seats for me. Thanks for the answers!

The black vinyl in my car was only $8 per yard ... the Comfortweave was $85 per yard. Let your upholsterer use standard blue auto vinyl for the seats and get the insert material from SMS if you want to go factory ...

Wow that's a huge difference in the price of the SMS vinyl! Yea I figured I would just use the closest standard vinyl. Cause I can't see spending 50 a yard on the vinyl from SMS when it looks the same as anything else.
