Does anyone know where you can get the LDO seat coverings that are already sewn. Just asking because I have 2 pairs of LDO seats that need upholstering (sp?) and I can remove the okd upholstery and hog ring the new stuff on.
Chandler, I don't think you're gonna find it anywhere for the Maverick seats like you will for the Mustangs. Not enough supply and demand. You'll have to take the seats (or the covers) to an upholstery shop to get the job done.
I am not looking for the exact material but something that will slide over the padding and look nice when stratched into place. Thanks I will look into them
If anyone wants to try to sew their own, a friend of mine converts old sewing machines into heavy duty ones that will sew leather or vinyl. They sell for $75 - 100 on average.
Sewing Machines What size are the machines? Have you had the chance to see them work for more than 2 hours? I am not scared of trying to do some upholstery but I am not so sure the machine I have now will take the beating. Not to mention the "arm" is not very long either. I have a 78 Chevy Malibu that I am building for my 12 y.o. son and I am gonna give the Interior a shot and see what I can do.
He's doin' it to me! This is the second time I owned the car. The first time I had it he was 2 and he actually remembers going for rides in it then. I had a chance to get it back for free about 5 years ago and he told me that they wanted to give it to me or they were going to sell it to the salvage yard. I got the puppy dog eyes from him and then decided to go get it. He keeps telling me that it is going to be faster than the 72 Mav and I start laughing at him and walk away. He came up to me the other day and had written across his knuckles that FORD SUCKS. (He gets off restriction when he is 16) I told him to look at the old Mav from the front and sides because when he gets old enough to drive "legally" that he was going to see plenty of the rear of it! I think it pissed him off. I just think it is coool to have a Ford/Chevy argument in my own household. The bad thing is that he actually knows how to work on cars and told me to go work on my junk and he would wrench his own car. I actually own 1 Dodge D350 van, 1 '92 Plymouth Grand Voyager, 1 '93 Dodge Grand Caravan, 3- '94 Geo Metros, 1 '92 Geo Metro that I race at the track, 1 '90 Ford Bronco II and my '72 Grabber. How's that for being a UNIVERSAL household? And no woman to tell me I can't!!! :bananaman
The machines are the same size as a regular home sewing machine. They feature all metal gears. They are the type of machine that your Grandmother would buy, then pass on to the next generation. I personally tried them with four layers of heavy vinyl and they sewed through it smoothly. They come already stitched in with #69 Industrial thread, and with a leather-piercing needle.
I am looking forward to the after pic. Do they sell upholstery for buckets? At this time I am having a hard time finding a J.C. Whitney book
You can find the JCW catalog online. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/StoreCatalogDisplay/c-10101/s-10101 I'm interested to see how this works too. My poor mav sat with water in it for a long while before I got it and now it has the BO smell. My brother's camaro did the same thing. I'm probably just going to have to replace the foam and everything, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. I'm not really looking forward into taking the seats apart. BTW, I only have the rear bench. The buckets and carpet went missing some time ago.
