I am trying to install grease fittings to lube the upper control arms on my 73 Comet. I thought the 90 degree mustang ones with the extension would be a great fix. After getting these fittings I tried to install them but there is no way I can fit them in because the wall of the shock tower is too close both on the front and back side.

I am moving on to drilling an access hole that I hope will look factory. I know some of you have done this and it looks great on your cars. My questions are:

What size hole did you drill to gain access?

What type of bit did you use to drill the hole?

How did you drill the rear access hole with the limited space for the drill?

Any tips to center the access hole over the control arm threaded hole so things line up nice?

Did you use the installation too that comes with the 90 degree kit? Mine went in OK with that.

I did try to use the included tool, but there is not enough room. I have heard of others having success with these fittings but my control arms must extend out further into the shock tower space.

Would it help to take the weight off the suspension and back the upper control arm mount nuts off a few turns? Not so far as to let the spring loose!!! Think mine have about 1/2" of extra bolts sticking out past the nuts. Don't know your situation but those nuts would be hard to get at with my V8 headers.

When I was considering drilling mine I was thinking of a 5/8" or 3/4" metal hole saw. Just big enough to get the grease gun thru. Was going to take a small, maybe 1/16" drill to make a test hole as close to zerk center as I could guess. Stick a pin thru and see where the REAL pilot hole should go.
