I recently purchased the Ratchet Pawl and spring from Melvin's Classic Ford. I have a 74 grabber and the "H" piece as discussed in other threads is for the other style of hand brake. However, i have found a way to get it to work flawlessly on those of us with the other style. First thing i noticed when it arrived was that my ratchet assembly only has 3 holes so the "H" didn't fit. I resolved this by placing the "H" with the left side flush and even with the inner part of the inner ratchet. mark the bottom leg of the H so that it fits in the grove. (see picture below) Grind down the "H" until it reaches the line. Can check by placing it in its slot or doing the above step again. (see pic below) (ratchet was painted inbetween pictures) Place spring on the full leg on the side with one leg missing. (the right side looking as in above picture). I order to get the spring to reach the hole on the top right side (same orientation as before) it takes some muscle and there is allot of tension on the spring. I helps to have a slight lip on the part of the H you grind down so don't clean up the edges. Place "H" and spring in their slot. (need to remove the handle to get it in. It also helps to put the "H" in half way and then put the spring on before inserting the single leg into its hole) Once the "H" and spring are in place replace handle. check to see if it works. Here are some more pictures to help see how it should turn out .
Your spring looks pretty heavy duty compared to the one I received from Melvin's. The diameter on yours is much thicker. Not only that but the spring they sent to me is a mirror image of yours so the spring tail that goes through the hole in the brake housing was on the wrong side.
