Hello, I am working on a 71 Maverick and accumulating parts to make this previous automatic car into a stick shifter. I have a z-bar from a 65 Mustang and I understand that if I cut down the length of the tubing portion, it will work. Any thoughts on this or has anyone used this one? How much do I remove from each side and what is the finished over all length of the tube portion? Thanks, Dave
I'm using '66 Mustang linkage in mine, probably about the same as '65 pieces. You don't "have to" shorten the tube to fit an early block but I took about 1/4" off each side when I went to a 5.0 block w/z-bar adaptor plate. My car's a 70 so I don't know if that will make a difference or not. The Mustang z-bar pivot ball studs are the same size as 6-cylinder Mav parts. V8 Mav pivot ball studs are larger in diameter.
