Hi, I have a yellow 73 ldo Mav with yello dog dish caps. it has a 6 cylinder 200 which im ready to replace . I saw this motor on ebay painted ford blue. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...10213221619&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123. The seller sez he can sell me the motor along with a new TCI Streetfighter C6 transmission and 2,800 to 3,200 stall converter. Questions please Will this motor fit easily and work with my automatic tranny Mav? Performance potential? Thanks.
You have to use the V8 belly bar, motor mounts and the rest of the parts that are used in the Mavericks with V8's in them. If it was a V8 car it would bolt in (with a change in the oil pan). The C6 will not fit in your Maverick without modifications to the firewall and transmission tunnel.
yea your going to want a C4 transmission. other then that it'll go in like any other 302/straight 6 swap
You have undoubtedly saved me a lot of money with your helpful answers so thank you. Ok, back to my original plan (before I saw the shiney, new ebay motor). A couple of years ago I bought a 302 V8 Maverick with 55k miles on it. Motor seems to run fine but I would like to start out with a fresh, zero mile motor and I know a mechanic that can take it out and take it to a reputable machine shop who can rebuild it. I have already read and the v8 swap conversion list and I realize I have to change out the motor mounts, throttle cable, etc. My first question please: If you had $4.000 - $5,000 to spend on this motor, what would you tell the machine shop do to it to get me a highest performance yet daily-street-driveable car? Second question: The donor car is a 4-door 75 v8 302 manual maverick and my car is a 73 2-door v6 (200) automatic Mav. Do I convert and rebuild the tranny from the manual donor car or upgrade the auto tranny in mine? All your expert inputs and opionns are greatly appreciated!
with that much money i'd probably just call up jegs or something and have a 302/347 crate motor shipped to my door step, maybe a trans too depending on budget. or maybe not an actuall crate motor but somehing with alot of work already done. someone elses abadoned project engine the v8 trans is built a little stronger but still they were put behind a 302 that didnt even make 200hp. but if you get one rebuilt get the v8 trans done.
might i add... there is a lot more to a rebuild than the machine work... intake, headers, water pump, alt., belts, hoses, carb., dist., coil, plugs, plug wires, radiator, heater core, breather, oil pump... the list goes on and on... ...and when done you want be happy...still a '75 302 building from scratch, i would build ...roller motor Frank :Handshake
Frank, thanks for all taht. Um what is a roller motor. Do you mind sending me a link to a jegs 302/347 roller motor and tranny that I can just put in? Any other places that might have it or is jegs the best? My e-mail is mac@ameliaisland.net. I say your absolutely right especially since I dont know a lot about motors - It would be best if I sold the 75 Mav on ebay as a parts car and just got a crate motor and tranny but I want something thats going to be high performance that will slip right inot the Mav w/o cutting, mods and all that. Tahnks again.
i was just looking. some of those crate motors are pretty close to 5 grand and arent even ready to run like most that i see. you dont pirticurlarly sound like you have alot of engine building expierence so i was just trying to put you on to something pretty much done ready to drop in and 4-5 grand is usually a good budget to get something like that your definatly gong to want to keep all the V8 swap stuff out of that car before you put it on ebay. a 4 door with no engine might make you more money in parts then as a car on ebay. just depends on conditon and wat it has. roler motors started in '83 i beieve but are still based of the 302 block whch will probably be the best engine to put in. parts are pretty common and fairly and it fits well. a 347 is jus a 302 wih a stroked crank, looks and fits the same on the outside and a 289 is a 302 with a shorter stroked crank that also looks and fits the same on the outside. aanyway, its definatly alot to consider, just trying to put a few options and ideas on your plate. good luck.
The guys here have given you very sound advice so far. As for the avatar, click on the picture of your car I have attached below. Save it to your computer (somewhere easy to find, such as the desktop). Then go to the top of this page and click User CP. Then look to the left of the page and click Edit Avatar. Hit browse, double click the file and then hit Save Changes at the bottom.
How about this motor? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/85-8...ItemQQcategoryZ33615QQihZ020QQitemZ7904696342
personally i'd search a little closer to home. you never know what your gonna get off ebay its diffrent buying from jegs or summit or a ford crate motor where you have a real company behind the product
