I am in the midst of getting all parts together for a v8 swap and considered going fuel injected. is there any one who has done the project and is there any clearance problems height- wise with the upper plenum to stock hood. my goal is to keep it stock looking except under the hood and injected is the best way to go power wise. we have done 5.0 swaps into rangers and bronco II's and the reliability factor is much greater than the 5.0 carbureted with a duraspark box. my intention is to use a c-4 that is at my disposal for small money, but I am leaning on a4ld. I beleive that unit is the same length as a c-4 and I can use the existing deiveshaft and yoke. I am open to any advise I can get.
fuel injection Go with a Holley Commander setup. You can get the manifold and all the parts and wiring. It fits under the stock hood, is more adjustable and user friendly.
I don't know if the manifold willl fit under the hood for sure, but my guess is yes. Mavericks have quite a bit of room under the hood. I have a high rise manifold with a 1" spacer and carb and it fits just fine. I am not positive, but isn't the A4LD the transmission behind the 2.3L Mustang? It's a pretty weak transmission and I don't think it was ever offered behind something with the torque of a V8.
v-8 swap charlie ping is right ! I stand corrected. a4ld is for aerostars with either 2.9. 3.0 or 2.3 mustang. getting old I guess. I will most likely stick to the c-4 . aod tranny looks like it will not fit unless you want to butch it in. this maverick is to good to cut up/ hack! I have a good c-4 now but was hoping to land a 4 speed for highway crusin. thank you all for the advise. bob oliver gis.net/~fordboys
Using stock Ford fuel injection, there would be a problem using power steering unless a left hand facing (TB) upper intake were used . Other wise just a standard install and putting the battery in the trunk, pipeing for the fuel lines and using an external fuel pump from an 85-87 pickup truck. Use the 157 tooth flywheel (for the C4) of the correct balance for a 5L unless using an older 302 engine. If the older engine is used, the injecton fire order will need to be changed to match and some attention to distributer shaft length and gear may need to be done. The firewall braces may need to be fabbed from 1" square tubing or some other material.
