I finally got another Maverick. My first one I had in HS and was in absolutely mint condition, a 1970 Maverick in the Grabber paint scheme. I had another Hotrod at the time so the Mav was left with the original 6 cylinder, but now I have new plans. I just bought a 74 Maverick and am currently building it for exhibition for our store here in Venezuela called Need for Speed. We have built a 347 stroker from Probe racing, a Toploader 4 speed, a 9inch narrowed rear that will attach via Martz chassis 4 link and also an airride suspension and Wilwood discs all the way around. The car is getting stripped and painted as we speak and then its time to install all the goodies. By the way, andbody got any ideas on killer paint schemes I am all ears.
welcome to the board. sounds like quite a plan for the maverick. good luck. post pictures when your finished. or as you go along.
Thanks for the warm welcome you all! I look forward to corresponding and becoming a part of the club. More pictures to follow soon....
For the paint scheme, do you have any ideas to start with? classic adaptation of the stallion or grabber would be cool IMO.
The car is being built for exhibition and racing so it really needs to stand out without being gaudy. I really like Black so for right now thats the base color. Then I have to see how it would look with the Grabber stripes in silver or white. Also toying with the idea of a fine accent stripe down the body line maybe a few inches from the top of the fenders, that would bring all the colors together, i.e, black silver and red. I'm not a flame nut, but I have seen some gost flames done that are killer. Finding an artist here though maybe a problem??? Also, has anyone eliminated the leaf springs on their Mav? How much tire and rim did you get away with? With the Martz chassis, we are going to be able to use all the wheel well for tire, so I am hoping to run some 17x10 0r 17x11 with the Nittos 555R in 295 or 315r35s???? I don't mind mini tubbing if necesary, but it needs to be well done.
black and silver is pretty nice, i like the gold stripes on it a little better. if it was mine id pay for the paint to be buffed and sprayed directional. that way the stripes only show at certain angles and it looks solid black at others. kinda pricey though...
