Wait won't he burn up his valves? My parents are always warning me to close up my cutouts or else I'll burn 'em up (yes my mom tells me too, gimme a break I still live with 'em).

I've heard a few reasons, I don't know how valid they are though. One is that with open headers, the valves cool too quickly and can crack.

Another is that with open headers, the lack of backpressure affects the compression of each individual cylinder and with some cylinders running at a lower compression than others, the valves burn.

Oh and another is cuz exhaust gasses exit much more quickly than with manifolds and if you tune the carb/s too lean, the valves will burn due to overheating.

I know that an engine than runs too lean will burn valves, but why would open headers be a variable in this? Oh and I also heard that open long tubes kill low end torque but help with top end horsepower. I can say that after driving with my cutouts both closed and wide open, I couldn't feel any difference, much less one that would affirm my low end torque was suffering, however my car isn't by any means a high performance car, so I'm sure that assumption would hold much more ground with a 10 second car as opposed to my 14 second car lol
