I'm curious to know what my VIN means. Can anyone tell me? The VIN is: F4X91F168427. For a 73 Maverick. Trying to find out what original motor, color, etc was.
body: 62A - 2 door sedan color: 9D white (1975 paint code?) trim: PU - tan LDO trans: W - c4 auto axle: 3 - 2.79:1 gear ratio dso: 21 - Atlanta
Body: 62A = Maverick 2-door sedan standard. Color: 9C = Pearl White. Trim: PU = Tan - Luxury Decor Option. Trans: W = C4 Automatic. Axle: 3 = 2.79:1 Rear Gear Ratio. DSO: 21 = Atlanta.
Thanks Guys!! Never would have guessed this car was a factory 302 car with the LDO option! Sure doesn't look like it now... Maybe someday it will, when I get the money! I like my black interior, though, but would LOVE to have a 302 for it! Also, what does DSO mean?
dso is the special equipment code. look at the link maverick 75 provided and it will explain all. good luck
DSO stands for "District Sales Office". It is the original Ford Sales district from which the car was ordered.
I find it hard to believe my car originally had a 302. That pisses me off because now it has a 200. Arggh!! Not to mention it had the LDO option! Not now... darn... Well, I'm planning on painting my car in a couple months. It's gonna be red with a black vinyl top. I already have the trim pieces for the vinyl top. When I get my tax return... Oh yeah, buddy!!! In a year or so I could afford the 302. Just out of curiousity, what would a 302 with a c4 auto sell for?
$500 to $2100, depending on condition. Get them from a wrecking yard and plan on rebuilding both. Or get them rebuilt and pay top price. It will end up being very close in cost but if you do it yourself you can make sure it is done the way you want it and you have bragging rights.
I might have missed a post, but you say this is for a 73 Mav? Well the VIN first digit of 4 means this is a 74 not a 73. Any pics of the car? Does the VIN on the title match the one on the dash? Just curious, with as much stuff that has been changed, ie motor, lack of LDO options, just makes me get suspicious of it. My 74 has the VIN stamped into the inner fender structure under the top of the right fender. I found that out when I had to replace the it after I bent it more than the body shop cared to straighten it out. rk
Yeah, that makes sense. However the dash VIN matches door tag. Hah!! Thought it was a 73! I've been duped!! Oh, well. It's still a Maverick! Here's a pic. Taken awhile ago...but gives a good impression! View attachment 20452
