has anyone put this on their car? does anyone know what it takes to install how well it works have any personal experience with it? ive been told its somtimes better to use than stock air conditioning if you can afford it because it doesnt run off of the engine its all electrical.
I am familiar with it, I don't know of any that don't have an engine driven compressor though. They supposedly work great. Seth
Like Seth said, they all use engine driven compressors. Its better to go with new after-market stuff. Sandon compressors are way more efficient and lighter than the York compressors used in the factory set up. When I get around to doing my Comet GT, I'm seriously considering an after-market system.
ok then were on the same page because i thought that too but someone i know started talkin bout all electric not engine driven and it made me wonder how that would work.
I think what they are refering to is that the Vintage Air unit is all electronic uses no vacuum to control it just electronic servos. The compressor is still engine driven
thats probably it and he probably misunderstood what he was told. I told him today what you guys said and he seemed hellbent on there being an all electrical non engine driven a/c unit but hes just confused i think. thanks everyone.
You could use a 12v motor to drive the compressor but it would have to have alot of torque, kinda like a started motor. It would draw alot of amps. If it was a better way, I'm sure someone in Detroit would be using it by now.
Catapillar is working on a system right now for big trucks, from what I understand it is simalar to a house window unit. It is supposed to be all self contained and run off of 12 volts. It uses a refridgerator style compresser and is supposed to be about the size of a suitcase where it will fit under a seat. If it is succesfull, you might see a smaller version used on cars in the future, but I wouldn't hold my breath!
