I wonder when a company will finally start producing front fenders that are steel and are an exact fit for our cars. There is enough of us out there to buy them. Has there ever been a petition to any manufacturer to start making them? I wonder where the original tooling went as some mustang fenders state ''made with original tooling''. Doors and proper quaters would be nice too as it took me around 50 hours to make the jobbers fit properly.Mike
The problem is there is not enough market for them. Even if there are a couple of thousand owners out there fixing up cars, most are on a budget and would not pay the price for a reproduction fender.
Yep. When I can go to the junkyard and get an original Ford fender in decent condition for $25, buying a reproduction for $100 that may or may not fit correctly dosen't make much economical sense to me. Companys that reproduce parts are going to primarily focus on parts that are in high demand and that the original part is either very hard to find or high priced, or parts that wear out over time like weather stripping and carpet. At least this is how I see it.
At one show I was talking to a guy from GoodMark ...they make lots of GM and Chrysler repops .... he told me the cost to design, setup and reproduce a 1/4 panel is $400,000 before a single one is even stamped ... We will never see Maverick sheet metal ....
Unless they go way up in value, there won't be any steel parts. Fiberglass on the other hand is waaaaaaaaaaay cheaper. That's why the corvettes had glass bodies. GM couldn't justify the cost to stamp out fenders and quarters.
