Ok, I have this little fiber thing that looks like a black wire coming off the back of my washer/wiper bezel. I know it brings light to the bezel so you can read the label but I don't know where to hook it to. Help please!

Ok. After going through my wiring diagrams, I think I've found a place for you to tap in and give your wiper switch some light :)

It appears to me that you can use one of the wires coming from your headlamp switch (wire #14 and/or #984 -- see attached diagram and pic) to feed off of. Use one of those little in-line crimp-on connectors so you don't have to cut any wires. I 'm not sure what color that particular wire is (I think it's red), but this should give you at least a place to start from. Hope this helps :)

--> Note the highlighted pins on the headlamp switch.

Edit: I originally stated as #19 wire. But after more careful observation, I saw that it is more likely #14/#984.

You may also be able to use wire #19C from your gauge cluster connector as shown here:

And I'm curious... does anyone know why that particular light connection in the wiper switch isn't showing up on my diagram?? See attached pic...

The washer bezel changed sometime in mid-run ... I suspect when dashes went to gloveboxes from trays.

Maybe the wiring diagram is an earlier one.

Yeah guys it's not on a wiring diagram because it's not a wire or lightbulb. It's actially like a fiber optic cable (pretty cool and high tech for the 70's!) and gets light from another bulb somewhere but I don't know where and I'm not sure if somebody cut it off because its not very long. I am converting from a package tray to a later dash with glove box and that's why I'm trying to figure this out.

Oh ok now I remember how that works.

On the back of you heater controls. I think there's a way you could use the light from there. But I can't remember EXACTLY how it worked but it seems to me that I remember going through this same thing about 5 years ago. Lol. Yeah I'd check the back of those heater controls. :thumbs2:

I certainly hope someone didn't cut it off... Then you either have to find a fiber optic wire or find another wiper bezel.

My heater/air conditioning control is out of my 72 and the dash is a later package tray dash with the wiper switch from the later dash.

That is exactly what it is. It should have a black socket on the other end of it. This black socket is half of another socket that is part of the dash wiring harness. The black part of the socket that is part of the dash wiring harness has the bulb in it.

Oh boy, I guess I don't have any of that because my harness is from my 72? What would I need to do/change? I didn't have the other end if the fiber with the socket so I guess somebody cut it.

I don't remember my 74 maverick having kind of setup. Nor my 75. Was that changed through years?

You guys are awesome! I plucked one from a 74 comet at a junk yard today. Just have to splice the wires into my harness somewhere. Thanks for all of the help!
