Scored some pretty good stuff. There was a '72 Comet LDO 4 door floor shift car there. I got a good front valance ($12.95), the LDO buckets with seat tracks ($19.38 each), a nice "fasten seatbelts" light (free), Comet front bumper with brackets ($28.38). Unfortunately, someone had already grabbed the floor shifter and the piece that bolts on the transmission tunnel. All in all, a pretty good day at the JY.

You should go get the floor shift steering column. Do those kick panels have the speaker grills?

The floor shift steering column never even crossed my mind. I will go back and get it as soon as possible, assuming it is still there. The column will be about $25.

That valance is going on my brother's '72 Grabber. I sold my last spare one a few months ago. Sorry.

I'll take the column, if you dont need it. I cant find one around here.
We can figure out how to get it to me later.

It's all yours. I hope I can get back down there before someone else gets it. I'll have to get the front end on the '72 back in shape before I can get down there. Hopefully this weekend.

God I wish there was a yard with Mavericks/Comets around here. Even if there was the yards around me don't sell stuff cheap like that. Buckets here would have been like $50 or more.

You are lucky to have junkyards down there where the Mavericks still have parts on them. All the junkyards up here are invaded every week by groups of out of state Spainish speaking jerks who strip the cars clean and take all the parts back to New York to be resold. What they don't take they destroy.

It is pretty much the same down here. You have to catch the cars within the first 2-3 days they are on the yard to find anything good still on them. Several yards down her have websites with a constantly updated inventory of cars, that I keep a constant eye on for the occasional Maverick or Comet. Several other yards, I have left my phone number and email address and asked them to let me know when they get any new Mavericks or Comets in. It has worked well so far. What really irks me, is I have missed out on several good sets of early door panels beause some idiot has come along and just ripped them off to get to something they want inside the door, instead of removing them the correct way.

Something I have been thinking about for a few days now, is how odd this Comet was. It is a 4 door LDO with A/C, floor shift automatic, and a... 200 6 cylinder? Seems it would have had a 302. Well, I was just looking back through my pictures from Saturday, and forgot that I had taken a pic of the door tag. The vin is 2K30F! So this was a factory 302 car that someone has swapped a 200 into! That means I also missed a double hump transmission cross member, possibly the V8 frame brace, and it wouldn't be the first time I have found a set of V8 frame mounts just laying inside in a junkyard Mav/Comet. Definately need to get back down there ASAP.

Heck the mavericks and comets here out west usually still have good stuff left on them, ive boughten 71 comet gt buckets, i bought a floor shifter and column from a car from same yard....and tons of other stuff, the yards here are "U PULL IT" so u yank parts urself and they sell them dirt cheap...i think i paid $15 for floor shifter , the guys here in phx will agree ....good stuff here, plus no rust!

It's pretty much the same here... you take your own tools, and walk about a quarter of a mile out into the junkyard (over 2,000 cars of all makes and models) to get to the section of cars you want. The cars are in numbered rows, and divided into sections by brand. A floor shifter goes for about $14.50. Not many rusty cars around here either. You can see that Comet is banged up and well used, but there is no rust on it.

I went back today and got the V8 belly bar with bolts for $7.28. You could see where the double hump cross member had been originally bolted onto the car, but it was apparently swaped to the single hump I6 cross member when they put the 200 in.
