the "torsion bars" or the bars that go from the lower radiator support back to the lower control arms

today before i went to the track.... i noticed that the rubber bushings are worn pretty bad and if i kick the front tires, they rock back and forth a little bit... i am assuming i can buy new bushings for them...

but what are they called... i knw my suspension needs work.. and i suppose i should get started on it...

    thanks

They are called strut rods, and they control caster. I've never had to buy any (they don't wear out) but NAPA probably has them or can get them...

K8157 is the Moog part number for the Strut rod bushing kit. K4004 is the nut kit. I'm not sure why you would need the nut kit but they list it anyway. Also it dosent mention if thats one side or both but I'm pretty sure its both.

Moog is a national brand sold by most quality parts places. Been around forever. I wouldnt trust some Twain made after market crap.

I meant that the rods don't typically wear out. The bushings certainly do. I replaced mine last year, and Dennis is correct; don't get cheap ones. I got mine from NAPA. Can't go wrong with Moog either...

ok...next step..... i know you loosen thefront bolt......and i havent relaly looked at it yet and couldnt answer my question by lokoing at them...

but how do i remove the struts rods...or slide them back to get the rubber back in place...

and a friend told me to gop to performance suspension technology to get a front suspension kit... for about 140 bucks....???

anyone know a good palce to get all the steering components and what not for fairly cheap.... 34 year old car...needs some workl... may as well do it all at once and get ONE alignment...

    thanks

They are bolted to the lower control arms. Remove the bolts and they will slide out

for the georgia guys, you can buy them from advance auto parts, they had almost all the parts in stock and the ones they didn't have they had them the next day. I'll post part#'s on monday when I get to the shop, if anyone want's these parts I'll be glad to order them and you can have them for my cost as long as you send the money and either pick them up or pay shipping,my discount is fairly substantial and it could save you some money! also they have most of the front end parts for a complete rebuild!

I didn't care for the polygraphite stuff I got from PST. I will not ever use them again.
