I have new fenders, and will need to do some work to get them on. But, what color do I need to paint the insides before mounting them? I have not decided what color to paint the car, but am leaning toward a candy-apple or maroon, with maroon interior. Until then, primer outside...but what under the carriage?
color doesnt matter cause you should paint it and let the paint dry and cure. then apply undercoating of some kind(the rhino liner idea someone posted sounds like a good idea)
cool, so black rubber will line the underside, regardless of what color the top is? My current car, stock 1974, has a "rhino-liner" coating underneath, all over, from stock. Kind of a foamy black rubber stuff all over which has decreased rust formation and corrosion all over. So a black primer with a "rhino-liner" should be plenty good for it?
We have always sprayed the inner fenders and quarters with paintable undercoating and then painted them black. For the heck of it we also sprayed some clearcoat on them as well. In my opinion the inner fenders just look better painted black to match the under carriage.
i would say black simply because dirt and grime and all that garbage thats going to be coating it will come out black... black on black isnt as noticeable as black dirt on white paint, which i am sure that Mavaholic found out.. i used under body coating spray cans from checker auto parts, they were 1.99 a can.. just spray it on thick, the thicker it is the less noise and the more durable it will be to withstand the flying rocks and all that stuff .. i bought 5 cans and sprayed all around the wheels when i had the fenders off, and i will paint the inside of the fenders with it as well right before i paint the car.
I consulted two experts on this and here are there responses: Mick Jagger said: "I wanna see it painted, painted black Black as night, black as coal I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black Yeah!" and Henry Ford said: "You can paint any color you like - so long as it's black"
